 for individuals, couples and families

Relationships and the quality of life

Joy, contentment and good health
are closely connected to the quality
of our relationships with others.
As children and later as adults,
it is the power of intimacy and trust
that enables us to experience being worthy of love.

This nourishes our self-confidence, creativity
and establishes the foundation for our personal growth.

If these qualities have been lacking
we can experience loneliness, sadness
and lack of faith in the world around us.

Emotionally Focused Therapy
has been thoroughly documented as having
a positive effect on people's relationships and lives.

When love fades or is shaken

A romantic relationship can be the source of both happiness,  personal enrichment and growth. However, meeting our desire and need for intimacy can also represent one of our biggest challenges.

When we feel that our needs for comfort, safety and intimacy are not being met we can feel lonely, sad, angry, apathetic and frustrated. It becomes difficult to think clearly, we can act rashly and become trapped into inflexible and destructive patterns of interaction. This may start to make us doubt our relationship. We can experience negative and critical thoughts and feelings both about our partner - and ourselves.

If you recognize this, it  may be wise to seek help to uncover and acknowledge the frustration and unmet attachment needs lying behind these problems. With a therapist's help it is possible to invite each other into a new kind of dialogue that can open for a new experience of your relationship focusing on understanding, appreciation, compassion and respect for both oneself and each other. Love can be rekindled and can grow!

My work with couples and relationships builds on the practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy. This is a sucsessful,  evidence based approach founded on a deep understanding of the science of love.
